Have you ever noticed God uses things to get our attention? Often it is something we are not even seeking, yet there it is, catching our attention and then we are on a journey with Yahushua trusting in His goodness and having faith in His strength and guidance.
I am a Texan. I was born in Texas. I lived most of my life in Texas. It is my home. My family lives there. It was not a place I was seeking to leave, especially during the worst struggle of my life. I thought I needed my family around me. I thought needed to stay close, so I had support while I worked through the circumstances I was facing. One morning, after leaving church, I had a sudden urge to go to Florida. I had never been to Florida. I had no family or friends there. I would be leaving the comfort and stability of family and friends to go into the unknown, but something in my heart knew it was right. I left Texas a few short months later and the story that unfolds from that choice is one of full redemption, healing and amazing grace that flows freely in my life every day since.
My story is remarkably like the quest of the wise men when Christ was born:
When they had heard the king, they set out; and there, ahead of them, went the star that they had seen at its rising,[f] until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw that the star had stopped,[g] they were overwhelmed with joy. On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage. Then, opening their treasure chests, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they left for their own country by another road. Matthew 2: 9-12
God used a star to get their attention. A star. Why? Because the Magi were astrologers. Yahuwah knew that they would notice the star and understand the significance of it. They noticed it and admired it and then acted on it. They followed it. They persevered in their journey. They were not discouraged by the words or actions of others. They kept their eyes on that star and they rejoiced in its meaning. They came to the door where it led them and they walked through it and sensed the urgency to worship Him, the King. The Son of God. They worshipped Him in fullness, not empty-handed adoration. They gave Him their best.
These three Magi, or “wise men” sought Him and worshipped Him at all cost. My heart receives that as what true wisdom is. In our honest seeking and fullness of our worship we find ourselves wise beyond earthly understanding. In the wise choice to follow Him we find peace, contentment, and healing. We find truth and freedom. We simply need to notice and move forward in action when we see the “star”.
In my story, my star was the thought of Florida. A simple thought that entered my mind out of nowhere. I recognized it and I acted upon it in full faith that God knew what He was doing and trust that He would provide what I needed. He did more than I ever could have dreamed He would do through that one act of submission and faith. You star will be specific to you. He knows what will catch your attention because He knows your heart.
When you see your “star”, I pray you follow it whole heartedly in faith and the truth that Yahushua is not only guiding you, but He is walking your journey with you. Trust Him and know that all will be well. I pray your stars shine brightly and your desire to follow its lead will bring you closer to the One True King.
